"Warring Ideals in One Dark Body"

Does anybody know of a good software for basic video editing? Good = cheap and easy to learn to use for basic cuts and fades. I'm mostly on Windows--I do have an old Powerbook that sounds like it's straining to go Number 2 if it's on too long. Suggestions? Would the Logitech QuickCam I use have come with something like that? (I know, probably it says on the box or something, but I really am not a techie, so please don't tease me because I do not understand a lot of ...tech stuff.)
